SANKALPA, Our Soul Longing

If you have ever practiced YOGA with me, you know how much I like to emphasise on “Yoga ON and OFF the MAT”. Yoga doesn’t finish when we roll back the mat, it continues in every action, thought and word.

How many times have you perhaps heard the word SANKALPA, in a Yoga class, Yogic Talk or at the beginning of a Yoga Nidra session?. Sankalpa is commonly used in Yoga classes to set up an intention, but in true, SANKALPA goes beyond just an intention for the time we spend on the mat, but it is the extension of our practice away from the mat.

SANKALPA MEANING

SANKALPA (Sanskrit: संकल्प) it is commonly used as an intention formed by the heart and mind.

The term comes from the Sanskrit roots SAN, meaning “a connection with the highest truth,” and KALPA, meaning “vow.” So, this one could be translated as expressing an affirming resolve to do something or accomplished something spiritual.

More and more, we could say that Sankalpa is our SOUL LONGING and what help us follow a purpose through our life journey, we use this one as a reference to bring alignment between intentions, choices and actions in our lives.

Furthermore, our Sankalpa can change depending on the moment in life we are going through, as we develop and grow personality and spiritually our needs and deepest purpose might change too.

➔ Your SANKALPA is a powerful tool that is there, to help you tapping into the true essence of your SOUL and HEART. HOW TO

3 TIPS ON HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR SANKALPA

1. Always start with something positive, never negative, it should be an affirmation. (EX. I am, I can, I feel). Keep your Sankalpa short and direct.

2. Think of your actual situation and where in life you are missing alignment, choose a meaningful Sankalpa to help you bring focus back to your deepest intention.

3. Set up the same Sankalpa and mindfully repeat it with purpose and intention everyday. Observe how you feel and the impact this has in your life.
